Skate with a Rollergirl
Tonight's your chance to skate with a real Southern Oregon Rollergirl, when the roller derby league sponsors a skate-a-thon to benefit Hearts With A Mission Emergency Shelter in Medford.
The skate-a-thon runs from 7 to 10 p.m. at Roller Odyssey, 2425 South Pacific Highway, in Medford. Skaters from the Southern Oregon Rollergirls will be available to skate with guests on a first come, first served basis. Other activities include a 50/50 raffle, face painting and interactive games for kids and more. Cost is $5 for adults, $1 for youths 6 through 17,and kids 5 and under are free.
Hearts With A Mission provides emergency shelter for up to 72 hours — or up to 120 days with parental or guardian consent — for youth ages 10 to 17. It is the only shelter for at-risk youth in Jackson County. For more information about the skate-a-thon, call (541) 778-966
Rollergirls get accepted; Skate-a-thon is Saturday
The Southern Oregon Rollergirls have been accepted as an "apprentice" affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby.
As an apprentice affiliate, the Southern Oregon Rollergirls join more than 100 all-female, skater-owned-and-operated leagues nationwide.
WFTDA apprentice leagues are considered pre-members of the WFTDA and have access to many of the resources and benefits of full membership.
Southern Oregon will be sponsoring a skate-a-thon from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Roller Odyssey to benefit Hearts With A Mission Emergency Shelter in Medford. Team members will be available to skate with on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children 6-17 and kids 5 and under get in for free.
Roller Odyssey is located at 2425 South Pacific Highway in Medford.
